So I totally applied for admission to TN Tech University today. How about them apples. I figure hey- it's about time. Things have lined up in a fashion so that I am totally able to do this. I had contemplated going to UT about a year ago but let's be honest, I hate the idea of going to UT. And getting the big orange screw, which is all too common. Don't feel like dealing with any aspect of the great University of Tennessee, so I said forget that.
This weekend I went to visit friends at Tech. One of my bff, Lauren (Bridges) Ragland is an admissions advisor there and gave me a tour and some great info. Such as, Tech is like super cheap. I will have most of my tuition paid for due to the whole grandfathering in on the lottery scholarship. Cost of living is so ridiculously low as well and the town is rather adorable and has plenty of work opportunities that lend themselves to full-time students. Crime rate at Tech is low, the campus is pretty much all in one area and so far from intimidating, it's insane, so I just kinda fell in love. So my thoughts are as follows:
1. I have lived on my 'own' since 2003 in the sense of going to work and maintaining a household. However, I have never been just ME- totally solo, and I kinda crave that. Well me and Lelah, that is. That's right- I'm not doing online anything. I want to move to Cookeville and go to classes on campus. Look at me regressing back to 18, y'all. (And redneck, apparently. You all liked it.)
2. I need a change in a big way. Some people will be moving out of my life soon and I am ready and totally okay with that. So why not stop, take a breath, and take a plunge for ME.
3. Now is a perfect time. Tech is only 100 miles from my current place of residence which is only 1.5 hours and about 2 hours from my parents. My parents are in good health and don't need me around for anything other than convenience as of current.
4. Why the hell not?
When I make my mind up, it is done and I put things into motion. And as aforementioned, things just seem to be there for the taking, so I'm grabbing. =) Now I am well aware that things do not always go as planned, but I have to plan or I go insane. It's what I do. So tentative plans are to begin classes in the Summer of this year. So if things go according to my 'plans', I would move around May-ish and begin a little life there so I can settle and get familiar with the area and what not.
tl;dr
I am excited.
I do have inspiration for said undertaking. One would be my Erin who moved clear across TN to go to UTM to obtain a MBA. And I was like... are we sure here? =D And then boom - my bff will be spending the year working in France beginning May. Her excitement about the opportunities that she will be taking was awesome, and that, my friends, was the reason for it all. Everything happens for one, you know. My other inspiration would be my sister because she pretty much told me what I was going to do =D So I'm all like okay... yeah... then life happens and I end up being. OKAY. Heck yeah.
So happy two-double-oh-neuf, gentlemen. I'm frickin' stoked.
